• I am currently in the final year of a four year course and my project is based on ‘Video and Image Transmission over the Internet’. Through research I hope to explore video formats such as MPEG, MOV and AVI and introduce some new methods with regards to compression techniques and large storage space for video. In terms of Investigations, one video format will be selected and a video produced, compressed using various Video Codecs under analysis and compared in terms of Quality of Video, Time taken for Compressing, Data-Rate and Storage Requirements.

• Subjects studied include Algebra and Calculus, Electronic and Electrical Theory, Optoelectronics, Signal Processing, Analogue and Digital Electronics, Measurement and Control systems, Communications, Digital Microelectronic System Design using VHDL, Computer Vision, Statistics for Engineers and Introduction to Accounting.

• I have gained good computing skills with subjects such as Electronics CAD which involved designing a group of 8 objects detector system and a synchronous data repeater for communication between two terminals, based entirely on digital logic. I developed programming skills in Microprocessor Applications (assembly code) and Structured Programming (C language).

• I have also researched and written on Optical Fibres, Impulse Response, Bilinear Transforms and Logic Circuit Design.

• Higher Grades:       Maths (A), Physics (B), Modern Studies (B), Technological Studies (C)
• Standard Grades:    8 O Grades - including English and French.

• 1993-1999 Gulf Service Station, Glasgow:   10 hour night-shift, twice a week. The work involved keeping stocks full, assisting in fuel tanker deliveries and providing customer service. Here I developed good communication skills   when assisting customers and learnt to work as part of a team.

• 1997-Style Windows and Conservatories, Paisley:   Telesales staff. I was responsible for introducing new products and special offers to customers over the phone and for making appointments for home visits. I learnt to work as part of a team and further developed my communication skills.

• 1994-1996 John Moores Home Shopping Service:   As a sales agent and customer, I was responsible for helping in increasing sales by ordering goods for customers. Orders and enquiries were made in writing and by telephone. Here I learnt to work individually and developed time keeping skills.

• 1992-Adscreen Limited, Glasgow:   Secondary school work experience based in a printing company and involved helping staff with print projects and creating new designs and ideas. I worked with a group and experienced working in a firm. My employer often encouraged my drawing and creating ideas.

• Sports - I enjoy playing badminton, tennis and snooker. I also participate in football, cricket and enjoy mountain biking.
• Others - I like listening to music, reading and I enjoy the cinema. I like to watch programmes based on science and technological issues to build up my knowledge and understanding of these topics. My main interest is Video Production and editing.

• Computing Skills - Very familiar with Windows 95/98 and knowledge of a range of packages such as: Microsoft OFFICE, WORKVIEW for designing logic circuits, MATLAB and LABVIEW for analysing measurement and           control systems, PSPICE for circuit design. I have also done programming in ‘Assembly’ and ‘C’ languages and video production for my home movies and special occasions. Using 'Microsoft FrontPage 98' and 'Netscape Composer' I have also done Web page design for my final year project.

• Current clean driving licence

• Good organisational and time management skills - I have developed these skills during my work experience and while at university when my duties were to complete assignments before deadlines which were many.
